Professor Christopher Jewell has been named a Damon Runyon-Rachleff Innovator by the Damon Runyon Cancer Research foundation. The Damon Runyon-Rachleff Innovation Award is designed to provide support for the next generation of exceptionally creative thinkers with high-risk/high-reward ideas that have the potential to significantly impact our understanding of and/or approaches to the prevention, diagnosis or treatment of cancer.
Recipients receive a flexible grant of $300,000 over two years that is renewable for an additional two years ($600,000 total). The award will support new staff, equipment, and supplies to help the lab push forward new vaccines aimed at controlling T cell differentiation to combat tumor relapse.
