This is the last milestone to achieve Bioengineering Honors Distinction – status awarded to only 5-10 Bioengineering undergraduate students each year. Congrats Kevin!

Congratulations to graduate student Josh Gammon, who is the recipient of the University of Maryland’s Summer Research Fellowship. The goal of the Fellowship is to allow top doctoral students to make significant strides toward a target doctoral milestone over the summer. Congratulations Josh!

The campus hosted a celebration of the leadership, supporters, students, staff, and faculty that have been integral in building our department over the past 10 years. To conclude the night, the department's 5 assistant professors took the stage to highlight some of the exciting work to come. Thanks to all the attendees, the entire Department Community, and in particular, the entire Fischell Family for their incredible and enduring dedication and support of our department.
Good news to report: Our recent paper in Oncotarget - led be graduate student fellows Jim Andorko (Jewell lab) and Kristi Chakrabarti (Martin lab) - is featured on the cover of the current issue of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology News. GEN is the #1 biotech new magazine and is highlighting our collaboration to develop new tools to study circulating tumor cells - congrats to Jim, Kristi, and all the co-authors!
Congratulations to Graduate Fellow, Jim Andorko, for receipt of both the Graduate Dean's Dissertation Fellowship and the Ann G. Wylie Dissertation Fellowship. These prestigious awards recognize the University's top graduate students on our campus. This year, Jim is one of 10 recipients of the Graduate Dean's Dissertation Fellowship out of more than 4000 graduate students. Congrats again Jim!

Yesterday Krystina Hess, Department of Defense SMART Graduate Fellow, successfully defended her PhD proposal to become a doctoral candidate! Congratulations to Krystina as she moves into the next phase of her PhD training and immune tolerance research! (and thanks to special guest Krystina’s mom who joined in on the happy hour celebration)

Michelle attended Brown University, where she completed a B.S. in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering and an M.S. in Biomedical Engineering. She will be joining the cancer vaccine team in the lab.
