Big day for Emily, who has been awarded the Graduate School’s Outstanding Graduate Assistant Award and who successfully defended her PhD proposal today. The Outstanding Graduate Assistant Award recognizes the outstanding contributions that Graduate Assistants provide to students, faculty, departments, administrative units, and the University as a whole. The award is bestowed upon the top 2% of campus Graduate Assistants.

Fellowship. The University's All-S.T.A.R. Fellowship was established to honor graduate students who are both outstanding scholars and outstanding graduate assistants. Congrats Emily!

This award is presented each year to one candidate in each of four broad areas across the campus. This year Lisa is the University of Maryland's recipient for the Life Sciences discipline. Congrats Lisa!

The Jewell lab has received a new NIH R01 to study the link between immune tolerance and the signals present in the lymph node microenvironment during autoimmune disease. Thanks to the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB), and especially the new Immunoengineering program, for this incredible support. The work could contribute to new therapies that offer more specific and effective treatments for diseases such as multiple sclerosis.
