Douti and Shannon receive BMES national meeting travel awards

Congratulations to a couple folks from the lab who received awards for the upcoming national meeting of the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES):

--Lampouguin (Douti) Yenkoidiok-Douti, NSF Fellow, received the 2017 BMES-NSBE Student Travel Award

--Shannon Tsai, NIH Fellow, received the 2017 BMES Student Travel Award

Dr. Jim Andorko receives 2016 Acta Biomaterialia Student Award

Congratulations to Dr. Jim Andorko, who has received the 2016 Acta Biomaterialia Student Award for his paper "Intrinsic immunogenicity of rapidly-degradable polymers evolves during degradation". Jim is a recent graduate from the lab and currently a postdoctoral fellow at Johns Hopkins University. The award and a cash prize will be presented  at the national Materials Science & Technology meeting in Pittsburgh this October. Congrats Jim!

Jewell Lab paper receives Cellular & Molecular Bioengineering 2017 Editor's Choice Award

A recent paper from the lab, "Targeted Programming of the Lymph Node Environment Causes Evolution of Local and Systemic Immunity", has received the 2017 Editor's Choice Award from Cellular and Molecular Bioengineering. The award will be presented during the plenary session at the 2017 national meeting of the Biomedical Engineering Society. Thanks tothe editorial board for this honor!

Jessica and Jahnavi selected to present at BMES national meeting

Congratulations to Jessica Yau, HHMI Fellow, and Jahnavi Muralidharan, NSF REU, who have each been selected to present their research at the national meeting of the Biomedical Engineering Society this October in Phoenix, AZ. Congrats!

Jewell lab and clinical collaborators awarded new translational seed grant

The Jewell Lab, along with our collaborators,  Dr. Agnes Azimzadeh, Dr. Richard Pierson, and Dr. Jonathan Bromberg have received a 2017 Innovation Seed Grant from the University of Maryland College Park and the University of Maryland Medical School. The award will support pilot translational studies to push the lab's autoimmune therapies forward. Thanks to both institutions for this generous support!

Professor Jewell authors new editorial for Science Translational Medicine

This week's issue of Science Translational Medicine (STM) includes a new editorial by Prof. Jewell highlighting research that could help overcome drug-resistance bacteria by combining engineered peptides with targeting scaffolds that localize these agents to lung infection sites. Dr. Jewell is an Associate Scientific Advisor at STM.

Josh and Arjun publish new paper in Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part A

Congratulations to Josh Gammon, Pharma Foundation Graduate Fellow, and Arjun Adapa (alumni), Fulbright Scholar, for a new paper they led in the Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part A. The work uses biocompatible liposomes to deliver drugs that regular immune cell metabolism to limit inflammation. Congrats!
