Professor Jewell was an invited speaker at the symposium on Interacting with the Immune System using Polymeric Systems at the American Chemical Society national meeting in Denver Colorado. The session featured presentations and discussion focused on how synthetic materials are being used to study and control immunity.
Thanks to the organizers, Prof. Aaron Esser-Kahn and Prof. Bruno De Geest, for putting together a fantastic session! Read more about the American Chemical Society here. Congratulations to undergraduate researcher Arjun Adapa who received honorable mention for his presentation at the Johns Hopkins University/University of MarylandBiomedical Engineering Society Undergraduate Research Day.
After a fierce competition spanning 7 events in the 2015 Jewell Lab Olympics, graduate student Krystina Hess came out on top with a gold medal, followed closely behind by postdoctoral researcher Peipei Zhang (Silver) and graduate student Jim Andorko (Bronze). Congratulations to all the competitors! Want to hold your own lab Olympics? See how we did ours at the link. Congratulations to NSF graduate research fellow Lisa Tostanoski for receiving a STAR award from the Society for Biomaterials. This award recognizes Lisa's abstract titled "Intra-lymph node delivery of biomaterial depots prevents and reverses Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis". Lisa will present this work at the national SFB meeting next month in Charlotte, NC.
Congratulations Lisa! Read more about Lisa on the Team page. Learn more about SFB STAR awards at the link. Congratulations to undergraduate researcher Arjun Adapa who has been admitted to the University of Maryland Medical School Scholars Summer Research Program. This opportunity provides participants with clinical exposure and in-depth research experience in a hospital and medical school setting.
